The City of Thomasville hosts a variety of sports and recreational opportunities including the Lake Thom-A-Lex Park, Winding Creek Golf Course and being home to the HiToms. In addition, the Thomasville Parks and Recreation Department has been in existence since 1949. Thomasville was the 18th city in North Carolina to have a full-time recreation department. The department maintains more than 106 acres of recreation property in the City of Thomasville. These acres include five playgrounds, three tennis courts, a 7,000 square-foot skate park, six outdoor basketball courts, one gymnasium, two recreation centers, one professional-size baseball field, one football stadium, one administrative office building, and seven athletic fields.

Hi-Toms

The High Point-Thomasville HiToms are a baseball team in the Coastal Plain League which is a collegiate summer baseball league. The HiToms play home games at Historic Finch Field which was built in Thomasville in 1935. Many of the HiToms and visiting players that played at Finch Field when it hosted professional minor league games went on to be enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Many of the more recent HiToms college players have gone on to play in Major League Baseball. The HiToms currently play in the West Division of the CPL, and are three-time Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup Champions.

Winding Creek Golf Course

Winding Creek is a regulation, 18 hole, municipal golf course in Thomasville. It has a par 72 with a rating 71 and a slope rating 126.

Winding Creek is open year round during daylight hours. Frost delay's may occur during winter months.

Colonial Country Club

Colonial Country Club is a private located in the beautiful city of Thomasville. Colonial features a beautifully renovated golf course, clay tennis courts, swimming and family fun. Colonial Country Club members are treated to a golf course that is well-manicured 365 days a year. Course setup is always fair, yet challenging. The greens are bermuda and provide a smooth and even pace for all to enjoy. The course includes:

  • Challenging par 71 course (USGA rating 71.5/slope 118)

  • 6,600 yards of rolling Bermuda fairways with 75 maintained bunkers

  • Large well manicured champion bermuda greens

  • Driving range and 3,000 square foot chipping green with bunker

The complex also includes four clay tennis courts with windscreens and landscaping. All four courts are equipped with bright lights for evening play. The full-size swimming pool is great for kids and adults alike. A wading pool is one of the most popular locations for those young swimmers.

High Rock Lake

Created in 1929, High Rock Lake is the northernmost of the Uwharrie Lakes and the second largest lake in North Carolina behind Lake Norman. Its water surface covers 15,180 acres (61 km2) and there are 365 miles (587 km) of shoreline. It begins at the confluence of the Yadkin River and the South Yadkin River. The lake's name is derived from neighboring "High Rock Mountain," the tallest mountain in the Uwharrie Mountains. The lake serves as a reservoir for hydroelectric power generation. This 15,000-acre reservoir on the Yadkin River provides excellent boating and fishing opportunities for bass, crappie, striper, bream, catfish and bait.

Thomasville Parks & Recreation

The Parks and Recreation department offers a variety of recreational activities for all ages. The department provides the citizens of Thomasville with fifteen different recreational facilities that offer: playgrounds, ball fields, a swimming pool, skate park, picnic shelters, meeting rooms, walking trails or just a quiet place to enjoy a sunny afternoon.

Hughes Park

East Davidson Hughes Park is an athletic facility owned and operated by the Davidson County Parks and Recreation Department. The park is located in the southeastern part of Davidson County, just inside of Thomasville, North Carolina. and host our youth baseball and softball games as well as weekend tournaments.  All Parks and Recreation activities have first rights to facility use.

Lake Thom-A-Lex Park

Area fisherman can launch their boats at the access below the Wardens office. The cost to launch a boat is $4 plus $2 to fish.  If you do not own a boat, you can use one of the three floating piers or bank fish for $2. All fisherman must have current North Carolina fishing license and lake permit. Area residents can launch their kayak or canoe for $2. Kayak can now be rented at the park, solo kayak can be rented for $15 for 4 hours, and a tandem kayak $25 for 4 hours. No swimming is allowed, the lake is the water source for the Cities of Lexington and Thomasville.  No pleasure boating, water skiing, or jet skiing is allowed. All pets must be leashed and are not allowed in lake and playground area.

Visitors of Thomasville are encouraged to participate in one (or all 3) of the City's Self-guided Historical Walks. Each Walk begins at the Visitors Center (Train Depot beside the Red Caboose) and they are all less than one mile long  (round-trip).
